Meet Michael Murphy
Michael’s Kansas roots run deep. Arriving in Stafford county in 1890, his great grandfather Abram Muprhy purchased a quarter of land and began farming in 1891. That original quater of land was sold and another near Quivera and the Rattlesnake Creek was purchased. His grandfather, and father along with two uncles, were raised here.
Michael and Janis moved back to western Reno county in 1990. Michael commuted to his job as an airline pilot while Janis “held down the fort” with their 4 children. In time, Janis worked as a volunteer and full time in EMS. Michael built the log house that is their B&B. Michael has served as president and board member of national and regional livestock associations, township board trustee and active member of the Penalosa Church of Christ. Michael has been active in politics “behind the scenes” for many years writing for two online magazines. In 2017 he went to Washington DC and covered CPAC. In 2012 the action novel Spare Time was published, based on a divided society that is largely dependent on government.
